Foot and Ankle Painin Ocean Township and Sea Girt

Foot pain is hard to ignore. Whether your job requires you to be on your feet all day or you just want to be able to enjoy your favorite activities without pain, we can help you restore movement.

Your ankle, the joint where your foot and leg meet, is an intricate network of bones, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Strong enough to bear your body weight, your ankle joint can be prone to injury and pain. Injury to any of the bones, ligaments or tendons in the ankle can cause ankle pain. Most ankle pain, however, is the result of a sprain, which occurs when your ankle rolls over your foot, causing a ligament to stretch or tear. Though sprains are often sports-related, they can also occur when you walk on an uneven surface or simply take a misstep.

Common causes of ankle pain include:

  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Achilles tendon rupture
  • Avulsion fracture
  • Broken ankle/broken foot
  • Gout
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pseudogout
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Septic arthritis
  • Sprained ankle
  • Sprains and strains

After evaluating your symptoms, one of our expert therapists will work with you to create a plan to manage your pain, restore function, and reduce the risk of future injuries using a combination of hands-on techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A physical therapy visit lasts about 40-60 minutes. The actual contents of the visit vary based on your diagnosis/need, but typically what happens is:

    1. You check in with the receptionist, make any appointments necessary, and we discuss your health insurance benefits with you.
    2. You go into the clinic. You can change clothes if you need to, then begin therapy.
    3. You perform 6-8 various exercises and stretches. These can include therapeutic band exercises, light body weight exercises, or minimal weights. The stretches will promote strength, stability, improved range of motion, and pain relief.
    4. We can initiate other techniques to include manual work, taping, cupping, and dry needling as needed.
    5. The therapist makes recommendations based on your progress. These can include altering the frequency of visits, making additions/alterations to your home exercise plan, or things to do before your next visit.
  • We recommend budgeting 40-60 minutes for a typical therapy session. The only exception to this will be your first visit, which can take about 20 minutes longer due to the physical therapy evaluation your therapist will provide. We also recommend showing up about 10-15 minutes early to your first visit. This way, you can complete the paperwork before your visit time and streamline the process.

  • If we are asking you to do something that is hurting too much, let us know! Physical therapy should not be severely painful. It is not common to be so sore that patients are in pain or it affects their daily life. If this ever happens during or after an appointment, let us know and we will adapt your program.

  • During your initial evaluation, your therapist may ask you a number of questions to determine what the cause of your pain is. This can include questions about your sleep habits, activity level, and work environment. They will also ask for a medical history, and then typically ask direct questions about where and when you experience pain.

People in New Jersey Trust SOAR PT

Hear from patients that reclaimed their lives.

I had a great experience with my therapist Dr. Nick Froio. He gave me exercises to do for my back and hip which improved immensely. Front desk and PT aides were all very professional and would definitely recommend SOAR. Thank you again for giving me strength again!

I had a very positive experience at Soar. All the staff were friendly and attentive. My therapist, Nick Froio, was very thorough, patient and always made sure I understood the nature of my issues while showing me how to manage and improve my symptoms. I have been in PT many times for various injuries at other practices, and I would not hesitate to return to Soar if needed.

I had a wonderful experience at SOAR for problems with my lower back. Isabelle is phenomenal. She listens and adjusts her approach with each session based on the current situation. I asked her if one day I’d just be fixed and she was right! I’m now back to my everyday routine/workouts and I feel good as new! Thank you, thank you!!!

My son has been seeing Nick for about two months and he’s seeing significant improvement in his health. Nick is wonderful to work with, easy going but pushes where needed which is very important for PT. The office staff is very responsive and attentive.

I highly recommend SOAR Physical Therapy and Acupuncture. All the staff is very friendly and caring. My physical therapist, Dr. Isabelle Brousse, is very knowledgeable. She was able to develop a treatment plan for my sciatica and my knee injury, and got me back on the road of recovery. I now go to the gym 3 times a week to keep up with my exercises. Kudos to Isabelle and the entire SOAR team.
